This Thursday is the Men’s Crew information meeting held at the Lyon Center’s conference room at 4 PM. If you’re at all interested in actively gaining pride for your school, getting in great shape, creating the best friends you can find, or just plain want to take the shirt off of UCLA’s back after you beat them come on in and learn what we’re all about.
We’ll be going over our season schedule including racing up and down the west coast (Pac 12 Championships, San Diego Crew Classic, UCLA Dual and more) and travelling back east for the national championships. We’re looking for anybody from first time beginners to seasoned professionals, bring your friends!

AUGUST 12, 2011-(LOS ANGELES, CALIF.) Director of Recreational Sports Gabriel Valenzuela announced today that James Long-Lerno has been named the Head Coach of the USC Men’s Crew Team.”We’re excited to have James join the Trojan family,” Valenzuela said. “He has enjoyed tremendous personal success as a rower and we are confident that he is the right person to guide our student-athletes. He brings energy, enthusiasm and experience to build upon our proud tradition of rowing at USC.”
Long-Lerno comes to USC after serving as an assistant coach for the Marin Rowing Association. While at Marin, his team went undefeated, brought home 17 trophies from their regional championships and won three National Championships.
In 2010, he received his degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of California at Berkeley. While at Cal, Long-Lerno earned top honors at the IRA National Championship and the San Diego Crew Classic. Additionally, he was named the 2009 PAC-10 Newcomer of the Year.
In 2009, Long-Lerno represented the United States and earned a first ever silver medal at the U-23 World Championship.
Prior to attending Cal, Long-Lerno rowed for Orange Coast College where he captained his boats to first at the Cal Cup of the San Diego Crew Classic and WIRA championships. He also earned the 2008 OCC Oarsman of the Year Award.
Long-Lerno is married to Candice Matheny and resides in Seal Beach, California.
