Oakland Raiders quarterback and NFL MVP Rich Gannon gave a small bit of credit for his success to an unlikely source -- the time he spent rowing crew in high school in Philadelphia. Gannon, known for his maniacal work ethic, got his start as an oarsman, waking up at 4:30 a.m. to row on the Schuylkill River.

“We’d start rowing in February and March, and you couldn’t feel your hands,” Gannon said. “It was a great sport.”
