USC Breaks School Record to Defeat UCLA.

LOS ANGELES:
USC's men's varsity crew set a new school record to defeat UCLA on Ballona Creek in Marina del Rey on Saturday, May 10.

For the Trojan Navy flagship, it was one of the toughest races it has
fought all year. The two crews appeared even over the first 500m and
then as they approached UCLA's boathouse the Bruins responded to a roar from their supporters to take a two seat lead at the 1000m mark.

And the the Trojan Band started playing.

The Trojans rallied in full force and drew their shell up alongside UCLA and then edged past the Bruins. It was still nip and tuck for the next 500 meters with the Bruins refusing to give the race away without a fight. Finally, in the last 500m USC went for a burn, raising the stroke rate 2 points per minute and finished a boat-length ahead in a new school-record time of 5:44.4

FINAL RESULT:
USC 5:44.4
UCLA  5:47.5
UCLA JV  6:09

The Freshmen also raced on Saturday and put up a fight worthy of the UCLA Dual but did not enjoy the same success.

Freshman 8 Race:
UCLA  5:59.8
USC 6:02.7

In other racing action, USC's women easily defeated UCLA in the varsity 8, JV8, and varsity 4 events to win the points trophy and tie up the Lexus Gauntlet. Congrats to the Rowing Women of Troy!
