Dear
Coach:
Looks like we are on the wave to great victories. Your (email) description
brought back happy memories. I look forward to hearing of our victorious
meets during the coming season and future years.
Congratulations and best wishes to our new coach and crews.
Sincerely,
Roger Safdeye
Dear Coach:
Great Job! Those scrimmages build the confidence that the workouts are
worth the effort; and that taste of victory forever propels oarsmen to
savor the flavor of victory again.
Keep Strokin’,

Dear
Coach:
I trust you will benefit from your use of the Pennekamp Rule. We won some
pretty big races in this shell.
Perhaps you and your crew would be interested in some background info
about the name. You should know first that Fred Pennekamp was married
while an undergraduate at Georgetown. So, as explained by Fred when he
gave us the shell, the rule was established by his team-mates that he
was to refrain from relations with his wife in the last few days before
a race. Makes a good story.
Good luck!
Coach Tony Johnson
Georgetown University
Note: The Pennekamp Rule will soon be renamed “James Hoffman
‘52” and will be used by the varsity crew against UCLA on
November 23.
