The results were pleasing to head coach Gene Kininmonth who noted that this year’s oarsmen are now rowing at a much higher standard, which was reflected in the results. “Our returning oarsmen are learning to row at a whole new level and we also have a strong and enthusiastic crop of novices,” said Coach Kininmonth.

Coach Kininmonth said he was especially pleased with the result of USC’s two novice eight crews under the guidance of the Trojan Navy’s new freshman coach Brett Winfield. “We still have more recruiting to do but our progress is certainly visible. Coach Winfield has built a solid freshman squad that rivals any Ivy League school and I am looking forward to the spring to see how far he can take his team,” said Coach Kininmonth.

Next up for the Trojan Navy is the Shell Games regatta, a three-mile race against cross-town rival UCLA from Ballona Creek to Marina del Rey on Nov 22.
