The USC Trojans are set to host the 2005 National Collegiate Club Rowing Championships on Saturday against competition from San Diego State, Long
Beach State and the UC Berkeley Lightweight Crew. The race will take place at 11:00 A.M. in the Port of Los Angeles.

USC won the national title in 2004 over Cal and San Diego State. Long Beach State are entering a crew for the first time this year.

The race is 3 miles in length. Crews will be aligned at Ports O' Call, race under Vincent Thomas Bridge and finish 3/4 mile east of USC Boathouse. The winning crew will be awarded the Kenneth Norris Memorial
Cup, named in honor of the late Kenneth Norris, who rowed on the USC crew in the mid 1950s.

USC will start as an even money favorite alonside the Cal Lightweights on Saturday morning. The two crews had an epic battle in last years race, with never more that 3/4 of a boat length seperating the two crews for more than two of the first three miles of the race.

Cal opened its season this past weekend winning the lightweight eights division of the Head of the American regatta in Sacramento while the
Trojans raced in San Diego easily winning the collegiate eights event over UCSD and Chapman in the "Row for the Cure," an event organized to
raise money for breast cancer research.

Long Beach State is considered the 'Dark Horse' of the regatta. Its squad also raced at the Head of the American this past weekend, finishing 2nd to Stanford in the Open Four and fifth in the Open eights event.

San Diego State remain an unknown force, having yet to open its season.
