Mission Bay, CA: The Trojan Navy opened a new season
this past weekend racing at the "San Diego Row for the Cure"
regatta, an event put on by
UCSD to raise money to fund research to cure breast cancer.
On a gloriously sunny Sunday morning, USC's heavyweight crew of cox
Emily Chin, stroke Bryan Barrett, Kevin Lorell, Alan Thesenvitz, Sterling
Brisbin, Jeff Clark, Taylor Coats, Adam Fish and Lee MacAuliffe opened
with a convincing win over UCSD and Chapman College in the men's collegiate
eights event:
Men's Collegiate Eights:
USC 13 min, 32 sec
UCSD 'B' 13:53
UCSD 'A' 14:05
Chapman 16:36
USC's freshmen made their rowing debuts in San Diego, however, unfortunately
no San Diego college teams entered the event and so Chapman College
provided the only competition:
Men's Collegiate Novice Eights
USC 'B' 15:33
USC 'A' 17:24 (minus an oar, took a wrong turn, had a lot of fun!)
Chapman 19:47

USC Men's Novice 8
Several of the senior Trojans also doubled up to race with Zachary Franklin
to race and win the college fours event as well.
Men's Collegiate Fours
USC 15:03
UCSD 16:00
Up next for the Trojan Navy is a double header weekend of racing. On
Saturday the Trojan seniors take on Long Beach St, San Diego St, and
UC Berkeley Lightweights as they defend their title at the National
Collegiate Club Rowing Championships in the Port of Los Angeles.Meanwhile,
the Trojan Novice squad will race at the Head of the Marina in Marina
del Rey.
On Sunday the full squad travels to Newport Beach for the Newport Autum
Rowing Festival. USC won the Open Eights for the first time ever in
2004 and will look to defend its title. USC will be challenging defending
title holder Orange Coast College for the Collegiate Novice Eight championship.
