Los
Angeles September 29, 2003:
Brett Winfield has been hired as Freshman Coach with the University of
Southern California's Men's Crew, second-year head coach Gene Kininmonth
announced on Monday.
Brett Winfield comes from the highly accomplished University of California's
varsity team. He brings a wealth of experience to a new generation of
the Trojan Navy. He enters the USC family with two clear intentions. First,
to build a strong team atmosphere, and establish the hard work environment
it takes to be successful. Second, to build the resources to enable his
freshman crew to dominate the field. "I want to establish a house
that will give the oarsmen confidence and pride. It takes time, but day-by-day
we will work hard together to improve strength and unity."
"I am very excited to have Brett joining the USC coaching staff,"
said Kininmonth. "He knows what it takes to be competitive at the
national level, having been a member of two Cal Bears crews that won back-to-back
Pac-10 and IRA National Championships."
Coach Winfield commences his duties with the Trojan Navy immediately.
