He was recently asked to participate as an assistant to Mike Teti and Steve Gladstone, but has been given full responsibility of the camp during the coming weeks.

The camp focuses on developing collegiate athletes who have an interested in pursuing a career on the US National Team Elite squad, which competes in the annual World Cup and World Championship Regattas.

crw_8290Junior Ryan Hasvold was recently selected as a member of the PAC-10 Men’s All-Conference Team. A recognition of Ryan’s hard work and difference making ability on the water.

Two days before the San Diego Crew Classic, Ryan broke his ankle. That injury left the young USC Varsity Crew lean on experience as they raced through the heart of the season, including the Hillen Cup duel against UCLA. But his late season return made his contribution all the more apparent.

Hello All USC Men’s Crew Supporters,

The USC Men’s Crew 2009 End of the Year Banquet was a grand ceremony. A wonderful chance for the Men’s Crew parents, alumni, friends, and athletes to celebrate and thank the students and supporters who have given their time, energy, and many gifts. The evening was hosted at the Ports-o-Call Restaurant, and saw a great celebration with the help of the world renowned USC Marching Band!

A special thank you also goes out to Sue Cook and Mike Cook. Sue did a wonderful job organizing the banquet and putting together the beautiful centerpieces. Mike was a great MC for the evening, and kept everyone laughing and on their guard. Thank you both very much.

The SPRINT to the Banquet was an outstanding campaign, raising $15,000 for the USC Men’s Crew! Thank you to all who gave.

The Banquet’s Major awards were bestowed on Four Year student-athletes Kevin Stanek, Lee McAuliffe, Taylor Coats, and Jon Brown; who were honored with a commemorative oar-blade for their incredible commitment and sacrifice for the Men’s Crew and the University of Southern California.

Greetings USC Men’s Crew Supporters!

Our ‘SPRINT to the May 14th Banquet’ capital campaign has been an exciting race. We set a goal of matching a $5,000 donation from ZipZap Inc., and have raised $6,380 over the course of our week email campaign (each stroke is worth $100).

This puts the Trojans in a position to win the race and break into open water inside the last 500 meters!
Let’s not settle for a close win. Help the Men’s Crew continue to walk away from the Golden Bears with your contribution. Join the Crew, take the rate up as we SPRINT TO THE BANQUET. Let’s bring the Trojans a finishing flourish and collect victory for USC by trying to reach $15,000! Read more »

Hello All,

The SPRINT to the banquet continues with another great contribution from Jack Schumacher of $1000.

For today’s update Mike Cook wanted to pass along a motivational allegory:

Stroke, Mike Cook, heard a groan from the entire Cal boat as their bow caught a crab. Wanting to take advantage of this rookie mistake, Mike told the coxswain to let everyone know he is taking the stroke rate up over the next 4 strokes. Mike’s 4 strokes pushes USC ahead at a critical time in the race to put USC up by a seat.
Now Mike is looking for fellow oarsmen from 1975 – 1978 to join in the effort and help pull the crew to victory.

Eric Lemke                   Clyde Kineko             Bill Gottschalk             Michael Johnson
Dwayne Bates              John Kirk                   Bob Haas                       Chris Hall
Mazin Hakouz             John Pollack              Charles Talbert            Dan Stanton
Lou Sclafani                 Ross Katz                    Tom Johovic                Tom Kiskadden
David Marx                  Jan DeWerd               Mike Cummins            Jim McNally
Bruce Wetts                 Todd Shaphren          Joe Lyons                     Stan Mullin
Mark Spears                Mike Cayson               Tom Stanton                Dave Wade
Bruce Burroughs        Bob Hicks                    Scott Burnett               Brian Guggisberg
Dan Gettinger             Dan Wells                    Chris Crockett             Chris Amyes

Coxswains:                   Keith Ogata                  Edith Chow                  Mark Blaine

He is also looking to the Freshman crew he once coached to many victories in 1979-80. Tom Tonelli (cox), Eric Noll, Brooke Heath, Mark Garvin, Richard Wanderer, George the Greek,  and others. If you have the contact information for any of these former oarsmen, please get them involved in our SPRINT to the banquet.

Help us get to the finish. You can do it!

FIGHT ON!

Good evening Trojans, here is an update on the “Spring to the Banquet”

We received a $1000 donation from the Stanek family and a $500 donation from the Proctor’s! Light and quick; we are out of the blocks with a good start! Those pesky Cal Bears are putting up a good fight, but the Trojans are out on top.

But the race is not over!

Tomorrow we hope to make a move toward the thousand meter mark and that is when every rower begins to feel the pain. We are in this for the long haul and need your help!

Send in your donations now and we will win the race!

Sincerely,
Adam Fish
USC Crew Captain ‘06-’08

All,

Here is a re-broadcast of an e-mail that should be reaching all of your inboxes by this evening:

Good afternoon Trojan Friends and Family,

Thanks so much for all of your support this year, especially to those who have very generously contributed to the Founder’s Fund. We have raised over $145,000 so far this year in total giving, despite the economic climate, and we are not done yet! Our fiscal year closes June 30 and we will have more updates as we go along.

To those who haven’t had the chance to give yet, here’s an opportunity!

We have are happy to announce a challenge proposed by one of our Board Members who has agreed to put up a $5,000 matching contribution on behalf of his new company, ZipZap, to kick off the First Annual “Sprint to the Banquet” … We have one week to match it, or lose it!

Hello USC Men’s Crew Alumni, Parents and Friends,

Since the Crew Classic the Varsity team has matured, gained new confidence, and developed trust within the squad. Our practices have been focused and executed with clear purpose- to beat UCLA.  This past weekend our Trojan’s blasted off the line, stroke for stroke with the nationally ranked UCLA boat.  The Crews were even at the 500-meter mark and we had 1 seat lead by the 1000.  This was the best first thousand our squad has ever had.
