Trojans
travel to Northern California for Head of American regatta
Lake Natoma, CA – October 27, 2007 - The Trojan
Navy opened its season with resounding success at the Head of the American
Regatta held on Lake Natoma just outside of Sacramento on Saturday.
The USC Freshman squad showed excellent form to win the Men’s
Collegiate Novice Eights event by an 18 second margin over its nearest
competition, winning the race in a time of 18 minutes, 2 seconds. Other
universities competing included UC Berkeley, Sacramento State, Sonoma
State, Saint Mary’s, Long Beach State, Humboldt State, University
of the Pacific and Cal Maritime.

The Trojan frosh crew was comprised of coxswain Alex Simone, stroke
Stephen Kent, Hercules Walker, Rory Gallagher, Chris Mora, Eric Goldman,
David Block, Josh Smith and bowman Ryan Gonzalez.

The varsity squad rowed in the Open Pairs event on Saturday and USC
captain Adam Fish teamed up with starboard oarsman Lee McAuliffe to
finish as the top college entry ahead of UC Davis, Stanford and Sonoma
State. A pair of Olympic hopefuls from the California Rowing Club won
the event.
Next up for the Trojans is a double-header weekend of racing. On Saturday
the Trojans race in the Port of Los Angeles for the National Collegiate
Club Championships and on Sunday the squad heads to Orange County for
the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival.
