PORT OF LOS ANGELES, CA: The University of Southern
California will host the 4th Annual National Collegiate Club Rowing
Championships in the Port of Los Angeles on Saturday November
3, 2007, Trojan Coach Gene Kininmonth has announced.
The race will be three miles: all crews will start at the same time,
lined up alongside each other. The winning crew will be awarded the
Kenneth Norris Memorial Cup.

The late Ken Norris was a prominent member of USC Crew in the early
1950s and his family’s foundation continues to support the rowing
program to this day.
Club rowing teams from universities across the United States are invited
to participate by entering an eight-oared crew. Only one crew may represent
each university. There are no entry fees for this championship race.
The Trojan Navy won the inaugural Club National championship in 2004
and successfully defended the title in 2005. Long Beach State upset
the Trojans to win in 2006.
USC will be looking to avenge the loss in 2007 against expected West
Coast rivals from Cal Berkeley, San Diego State, Long Beach State, Arizona
State and Sacramento State.
This race provides an opportunity previously unavailable to club programs
struggling for recognition,” said Coach Kininmonth. “It
is a chance for clubs to compete for a national championship on an even
playing field.” According to Coach Gene Kininmonth the Port of
Los Angeles offers some of the best water to row on in the world. “The
port is extremely well protected from wind. It is also wide making it
ideal for boat racing with large numbers of crews.
